Fire and Gas Coverage Calculation

At the core of the Effigy fire and gas mapping software lies an algorithm that calculates coverage by considering the specific applications, equipment, and instruments within a facility, utilizing both geographic and scenario-based analyses. The features of the calculation engine include:

  • Full 3D Analysis: Performs a comprehensive three-dimensional analysis that includes field-of-view manipulation, obstacle positioning, and obstacle shadow orientation for detectors.

  • Targeted Areas of Interest: Calculates results for any priority area of interest selected by the user, with the ability to include multiple priority areas if necessary.

  • Specific Detector Modeling: Accurately models detectors from any manufacturer and separately evaluates all documented sensitivity settings for these devices.

  • Comprehensive Database: Contains a database of the most common fire and gas detection equipment along with their respective performance metrics.

  • Precise Projection Modeling: Accurately models field-of-view projections as detectors are moved away from the target elevation or rotated away from the parallel.

  • Material-Specific Modeling: Accurately models different materials of interest (e.g., methane, hexane, methanol) for each detector as required.

  • Complex Obstacle Geometry: Analyzes the modeling of multiple obstacle geometries, including cubes (cuboids), spheres, cylinders, and cylindrical vessels (vertical and horizontal) in all rotations and orientations.

  • Tabulated Results: Provides tabulated results for areas where: 1) no detector provides detection, 2) a single detector provides detection, and 3) two or more detectors provide detection.

  • Graphic Coverage Maps: Offers color-coded graphical coverage maps that specify the size of multiple coverage areas.

  • Defined Interest Limits: In addition to general regional results, limits graphical and tabulated results to specific areas of interest defined in grading maps.

  • Independent Area Results: Provides multiple and independent results for every multi-graded area located across all regions.

Scenario-Based Coverage

In addition to standard geographic coverage, Effigy Fire and Gas Mapping Software provides scenario coverage maps. These maps offer:

  • Geographic Risk Profiling: A profile that combines thousands of possible scenarios within a relevant region.

  • Reduced Risk Profiling: In addition to calculating the fraction of detected scenarios, it provides a reduced risk profile mapping only those scenarios not detected by the fire and gas detector array.

  • Visual Data Presentation: Scenario analysis results are displayed as color-coded equivalent curves (isopleths) of continuous release frequency.
